OUR STORY

John Henry McDonald founded Austin Asset Management Company in 1987. His dream was to create a wealth management firm that served as a fiduciary and advocate for its clients.

This dream became a reality when, in 1994, Austin Asset Management Company became one of the first wealth management firms in Austin to provide fee-only financial services. This paradigm shift toward objective counsel proved revolutionary. Clients quickly recognized the value of receiving advice that was not driven by the purchase or sale of any product.

As the business grew, it became apparent that additional professionals would be needed to deliver the professional service this new model required. Eric Hehman, an Austin native and graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, was hired in 1997 to advance the firm’s offering. In 2000, Eric became a partner and Chief Financial Officer, eventually settling into his current role as Chief Executive Officer.

Since that time, others have joined the executive team to lead and develop additional areas of the business. Greg Van Wyk joined the firm in 2001 and later became a partner in 2007 after revolutionizing the financial planning arm of the business. Jonathan Davison became the fourth partner in 2010 following his addition to the portfolio management team in 2006. With more than 16 talented professionals and staff, the firm has grown to be the #1 Financial Planning firm in Austin and one of the Top 15 Wealth Management firms in the capitol city.
